Busted on-board computer? :(

So last week I got an error under the odometer stating that I should check my foglights. Sure enough the left one burnt out. No big deal.

However, ever since then, that display no longer displays anything. You're supposed to be able to cycle through the time, date, fuel economy etc by pressing those pips that stick out of the instrument panel.

Now they have no effect. It is dark forever. Now I have a new state, which is that now it does it turn on to show me that the external temp is 3*C. The X5 dings to tell you that too.

But then the display goes dark again. Anyone heard of this issue, or do I have to pay? I'm out of the new-car warranty, and now only have the CPO warranty.

I'm gonna change the foglight myself this week, and am hopeful that display will start working again.

If this was my car, I`d disconnect the battery for 10 mins or more to let it all reset. Just like re booting your computer, the BMW might need a re boot.

Ian, I agree w/adrian on the batt disconnect and reboot...worth a try.
Good Luck with the CPO for the investigation, diagnosis and "covered fix". Whew.
PM Rob_ for ideas...he has forgotten more about Xs than we all know, imo.
