Inside Door Handle Please Advise

Hey guys I'm new to the forum. Just got my X5 a couple months ago. Couple days ago my passenger side door handle stopped working. The outside one opens the door ok but the inside one sort of flops around. I have done some reading on this forum and seems that every repair described deals with the outer handle braking. I took the door apart thinking that something came loose maybe. I noticed that it was already fixed once by someone with some sort of a glue. What happened is the actual interior handle assembly is broken. The part where the cable attaches was snapped and glued together.

I also noticed that the cable doesn't retract. I maneged to reglue the plastic piece but the cable doesn't seem to have any tension. Does that mean the carrier is done also. I can find carriers online fairly cheap and there are some great write ups here to replace them. Not sure about the interior handle though. I can't find one anywhere. I guess I'll try calling BMW and see how much they want for this little piece of plastic.

Any advice would be appreciated. I guess the only thing I'm not sure about is if I need a new carrier. Since mine doens't seem to retract anymore. Or maybe that's normal and I'm missing a way to apply tension to the line somehow. Thanks in advance.

Is the part the one in this pic, number 8 or 16?

Number 8 (just to the left side of the bottom-left corner of the door in the pic) is OEM part number 51418408564 for the passenger side, $20.48 List price
Number 16 is 51418185805 for either side, discontinued part

It's more like no. 9. The actual handle. It seems that the part where the cable attaches is broken and someone glued it together.

As I said before even that wasn't broken the cable doesn't seem to retract. I mean when you pull the handle I'm assuming the cable should be 'pulling' or retracting back, which it doesn't do.

Okay I get you now.

Number 9, passenger side is 51417122198 - $48.19 list
If it's the one with a light in it, part number 51417122200 - $75.35 list

I'm assuming from your earlier post that you already have the cable issue wrapped up. If not, post back and we'll keep digging.

Does that website only get you part numbers or can you order there too?

As far the cable issue I wanted to see if someone could clarify if I need a whole new carrier. It seems it doesn't retract. Maybe that's normal or is it a sign that I need to replace it? Thanks

I can't answer the 2nd question, haven't been long in the X5 world, maybe one of our more experience members can help you with that.

As to the first question - I can't find a way to order from RealOEM, but there are a couple of forum vendors and other sites that allow you to place orders via the OEM Part Number. I'll refrain from mentioning them because I don't want to start a tiff with the moderators over mentioning a non-vendor over a vendor, or one vendor over another... Take a look at the vendor forum and you should be able to figure out who does order-by-part-number

Hey I found a great site www.bimmerspecialist.com they ship to canada without duty or brokerage fees.

I do have another question that I hope someone can help me with. They don't have illuminted door handles. They do have the regular ones. Can I use that instead? It says 'Not for vehicles with illuminated handles'. I'm wondering if they're different somehow other then the light part. Personally I couldn't care less if there is a light there. Hope someone can chime in. Thanks again.
