THANKS!

so...i have been driving myself NUTS trying to figure out this bluetooth compatibility issue, and now that i have checked the production date, i may not have it (even though i have a passkey, and the dealer told me that i did).

2004 X5 4.8is w/NAV and BMW asst. (prod. date 08/04)

bluetooth??? or only on 10/04 and later?

i appreciate the help!!

if you have a passkey, you should have bluetooth. by passkey do you mean the card labelled bluetooth security code? if you have that, then you have it.

Not so fast, scooter, that's not true. BMW put the passkey in the 2004's in error and issued a TSB to the dealers to clarify this - http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/841304.pdf Read through it and you will see:

For E46/E83/E85/E53 vehicles produced
between 3/2004 and 8/2004, are equipped with a
TCU that does not support Bluetooth®. On these
vehicles the TCU can be replaced at the
customer's expense with a 2005 MY TCU.
Cradles may not be added to these vehicles
because of wiring incompatibility.

Please disregard the Owner's Manual insert,
shown to the left, indicating Bluetooth®
functionality. The hardware in these vehicles will
not work correctly.
One way to check would be to go through the pairing proceedures to see if it responds. If it does then you have BT, but I'm betting you don't - http://www.xoutpost.com/showarticle-16.html

ok, thanks! i forgot to mention that i also have a cradle. my phone can't "find" my car. perhaps it is a compatibility issue with my bb7520?

frustrating!
