Auto Door Locks not all working? And transfer case ??

Hi all, this is my first post. I have two problems with my 2000 X5 4.4 that has 120K miles and weve owned it for 6 years now. When I either use the key in the drivers lock to open or close the door, the passenger side lock doesn't always work. Same for when we use the key clicker button. Every once in a while it will lock or unlock all doors, but rarely. Is there air or oil that is pressurized in the system that can be pumped up, or are they electrical? Is this a do it yourself fix for a fairly handy guy?

I'm also about to embark on the transfer case and front drive shaft repair or replacement. I have a mechanic coming to the house this weekend to check them out. I get loud knocking/thumping when accelerating from a stop. It sounds from the posts like its a TC chain issue. Now to decide, should I just get a rebuilt TC and install it, or have the machanic replace the chain. he has never done the chain in an X5, but the post in this site (with photos) makes it seem not too bad. Any thoughts on this as well?
Thanks much for your comments!
Tom
