New X5 owner!

Well after all these years I dipped into the BMW arena.

I found a 2003 4.6is and so far enjoying it. Since it is used and new to BMW, I am finding that I am on the short end of the learning curve.

I can tell that there are a lot of small things that I need to learn. Like listening to the vehicle. The rear hatch unlock hits more than once - don't know if this is normal. Small things that I am sure I will present a thousand questions for.

Well in short, I am looking forward to the forum and learning.

I went to see it Thursday and it was delivered last night. After detailing it myself today I found that it has some things that I didn't notice when I looked at initially. It drives perfect - no complaints from the drive train. I will though have to look into the rear hatch lock. It will try to unlock 3 times (click, click, click).

Other than that, I just need to go through one end to the other.

What sold me was the color! After three silver vehicles I needed a change!

Looks great and welcome. Looks lowered a little as well.

I highly recommend purchasing a good aftermarket warranty. Trust me, you will come out on top of that deal.

You guys do realize that the aftermarket warranty companies make money selling warranties? And that pricing is specific by vehicle model? Given that, it is impossible for everyone to come out on top, except the warranty company. That is just a math calculation, and it applies to all types of insurance.

If you can't afford or don't want to deal with, the cash cost impact of a breakdown, then a warranty is a good idea. You are trading overall cost (higher with a warranty), for peace of mind (security of knowing what the cost will be). That is on an average of the population. It is certainly possible for one or more people to come out ahead, but it is impossible for most to come out ahead.

maybe we are the only ones who come out on top because we are very meticulous about the mechanical nature of our cars that we have EVERY little thing checked out. But remember that many people have aftermarket warranties who dont realize what it covers, or even use it at all (due to negligence and just plain stupidity)--those are the ones who make the money for the warranty companies!
