CV Joint inner boot replacement, where to find split boot?
On my X5 2002 3.0i I just got a inner CV joint boot torn. I know that you can do the proper repairs by taking out the half axile etc, but I just want to put a split boot instead of OEM since this has just happened, no dirt inside and the joint bearing is fine and it's way easier for DYI.
Could anyone direct me where I can get a purchase such a thing for this type of car? It is an X5 2002 3.0i manual shift. DG |

I have not seen split boots around for many years .
you can suture the boot if it is a small tear . cover the stitching with bicycle puncture repair patches . this can last thousands of miles . you do not need to remove the entire axle to replace the inner boot . you can remove the bolts from the suspension arms . or remove the bolts holding the hub to the strut to allow enough movement to pop out the inner cv joint . this is a triple roller bearing . easy to remove . here are photos of the joint Last edited by amacman; 12-05-2010 at 01:24 AM. |
