X5 not liking "cold"

This is funny, my X5 (06 36,000 miles 3.0) a south FL car did not like the "cold", 45 degrees (in Orlando) I realise that is not really cold but what difference in the car's "feel" for the first 5 minutes...the p/s was stiff...
I guess the baby is spoiled by much higher temps....(Ft Lauderdale)

Maybe just urban myth/anecdotal, but I've always felt that my cars and m'cycles run very well in 35-60 deg F temps, as opposed to 75/80F and higher.

Yes, it takes slightly more time for engine to get fully warmed, but they sure seem to run better at something less than "warm" ambient temps. My old
hot rod "knowledge" suggests it is the better volumetric efficiency, or better air charge at cooler temps...I could GOOG it and read up, but...;>)

And, yes it is cool even here in SW FLA for the next few days, but it beats the 10 degs F and snow, back at our Mtn Joint.

well - ya, it takes longer for all of the oils to warm up from colder temps, tho 45 isn't all that cold. But I love this time of year because the motors all make great power when ambient temps are in the 50's during the day!!

Y'all are right...cold air is better for the engine in the car,, but not for MY engine....actually it surprised me about the power steering being tighter....it did loosen up soon...and now back to S FL and the p/s likes it better.
The other thing I noticed is that the sport suspension was a lot "choppier"

I know how you feel. I hate hate hate starting my car up in ithaca when its in the negatives farenheit. Even now, its about 20 degrees, the shifts are so rough, so i let her warm up for about 5 minutes before i start driving.

i do notice that once the car is warmed up, it loves that cold air that it takes in!

I envy all of you.

What the X5 really does not like is -22F.

Also it really really does not like it when temperatures range from -22F to 41F overnight, then back again.

I'm with Godfather, litereally, same province in Canada. Even your leather seats are rock hard at -40F. You guys have no clue what cold is.

I KNOW what cold is, that's why I'm in south FLORIDA, 55 YEARS OF SNOW AND ICE.
Coat on try to get key to turn, start engine, scrape windshield, start driving, after 10 minutes, try to remove coat while driving.....S**T...
So here, try to keep interior of car from getting dried out from the sun beating on dash and seats, fading the leather.....just different ....
