Oil Service - Now on Amber indicator Light

Hi all,

My 2004 (Facelift) X5 3.0D has just topped 55k miles and is ready for an Oil Service according to the display. Can someone tell me whether this is likey to be a service 1, 2 or the major service please. Also, would depending on the service can someone tell me what will need to be serviced as part of this please.

Again, thanks in advance for those who contribute

if it says oil service then its oil service given that its been done properly and the intervals reset properly before. If its an inspection then the inspection light would come on.

It came with dealer service history which i verified by ringing the dealer. I only ask what it might require because i went to the dealer a few days ago and he advised that it requires an inspection 3 or maybe 2 which would cost about £500! He checked by putting my key into a computer he had as his desk.

it supposed to get and inspection 2 at 60K miles. don't know KM. 15k oil and rotation between insp 1 and 2 is 30k. just noticed you have a diesel. I was talking about gas. check the manual it should say in there.

There is no Inspection 3. As posted above, there are oil services (which include some inspection items) every 15k miles, inspection 1 at 30,000, and inspection II at 60,000. Those mileages are just starting points, the actual intervals depend on the vehicle, how it is used, and the service lights.

Here is a link for a generic service schedule, showing the contents of each service and inspection, so you know what to expect. Inspection II is the most comprehensive inspection.

ok, thanks

I guess a trip to the delears will clear up. Does £500 sound about right for an inspection II? To be honest im looking to sell the X as im entitled to a company car now so not sure whether to go for the service or knock the cost of service from the sale price? Would it sell better/quicker with it being recently services eventhough i would knock the cost of servicing of the price
