Question Strange electric problem

Ok ppl. I'm really confused at the moment. My wife has just recently bought a very nice 2002 3.0 d sport X5. All has been great till I had to change the centre fuel pump.

After reconnecting the battery, I have no interior lights other than the ones on the tailgate, the key fob no longer locks/unlocks the doors other than the tailgate and the heater always returns to 22 degrees after turning off the ignition.

It almost sounds like it's not holding on to it's memory. Sorry if I sound a little on the dim side. But this is not a car I'm familiar with. I'm more used to my 300ZX TT and motorbike.

Any help would be more than welcome. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum....... Strange one this..... I'd try disconneting the battery again and leaving it off over night then reconnect . Seems odd that only the boot end is working with regards to locks and lights.

You will need to reinitialize your keys.Pay attention to "ALL THE KEYS"

Here are the instruction :

1. Charge the key for about 1 hour in the ignition.
2. Enter the vehicle and close the doors
3. Briefly turn the ignition on (key to position 2) and off (5 times within 5 seconds). Don\'t actually start the car.
4. Remove the key; press and hold the \'unlock\' button. While holding the \'unlock\' button, rapidly press the \'lock\' button 3 times within a period of 10 seconds.
5. Release the \'unlock\' button.
6. The central locking system activates and releases all locks in rapid succession to indicate that the initialization has been successful.
7. To initialize additional remote control keys (make sure that no more then 30 second elapse between each initialization procedure) repeat steps 4 and 5 ONLY. Do not repeat step 3.
8. NOTE: You MUST initialize all the keys (at least that is what I found, otherwise by initializing one you de-initialize the others).

So and after you're done with that take your key and plug it into the ignition to the position 2 without starting the engine, adjust everything to your desired levels and press M button on the side of your seat and the # 1 or #2 or #3 memory buttons, which is gonna be used by you.
For the Climate Control adjustments ,in my X I found an "algorithm" if the temperature is set in first 20 seconds or so of running the X,it stays that way if not, every time it jumps back to the previous setting..like if the system ignored an input while driving..I don't know, but it's the way it is in my X.

Good luck with the resurrection

Thanks guys. This is something I'll looking into this weekend, when I can get home before the daylight gives out on me.
