E53 2005 X5 4.8is Nav question

I have a couple questions between my nav systems in my car. I have looked through old threads but cant seem to locate and was hoping someone can tell me?

In my 2003 E46 M3 I have factory nav with cd player behind screen. It does NOT have DSP and does not tell me distance to destination or arrival time. DVD based...

In my 05 X5 4.8is I have factory nav with "cassette" player behind screen. It DOES have DSP and tells me distance to destination, arrival time and more. DVD based...

First, how is it that my newer BMW has a cassette player but has more functionality. Second, can I change to a model that has cd player and retain all functionality above.

Third, for my M3 can I change to a newer model that has dsp, and gain functionality like that in my X5?

Does anyone know who made these for BMW?

Thank you,
Mick
