I am trying to get together a bag with necessary tools and what nots to help me get back on the road if needed. So far I have:

Jumper Cables

Flashlight

Water
Screwdriver/Hammer
Duct Tape
Rags

Anything else you guys keep in your X5’s?

Your list looks pretty solid. Something to add maybe: reflectors incase you're stranded, or flares, etc. This would be a great place to keep a lot of those things, and it's OEM:

Currently, everything on your list, except the hammer. Lots of things around that can be used as a hammer. I added the following:

1) A piece of clear plastic (6 mil or greater), 1 m x 2 m, folded up. Use it to lie on if you ever have to look underneath. Use it to line the luggage area if you have something messy to carry.

2) A Leatherman (a decent one)

3) A small hacksaw blade (currently missing), and a knife.

4) A travel package of Wet Wipes.

The emergency kit from my last vehicle, currently in the garage, includes:
hatchet
tarp and rope to build an emergency shelter
waterproof matches
candles
coveralls
gloves
12" x 12" square of plywood as a base for the jack
tow strap and 2 short lengths of chain with shackles
flares and triangles
power (energy) bars
all stored in a Rubbermaid tub and stashed in the back of the truck
But I lived a lot further north then, and spent a lot of time on backroads. No cellphone coverage, and the sole mission was to stay warm and dry until help arrived in the event of being stranded.

You have all got me wondering if I have enough "stuff". Here is what is in my X5 right now:

jumper cables
tow strap
flashlight
knife
bungee cords
rope (light duty)
OEM tools
blanket (vinyl on one side, flannel on other, designed for picnics)
power inverter (12V to 110V)

In a small island, it's kind a different

Well, in my case, a drive that would last more than an hour would be out of ordinary, like something caused by an accident at the highway going from Central to West Maui and back. No back roads available. What I keep in my X5 will probably make you laugh:

- Tshirt, beach shorts, and slippers (so I can go hang out at the beach anytime and anywhere I want.)

- Further to the above, a beach chair to sit on, in case a breathtaking sunset is in the works

- A pair of binoculars during the months of January through March, in case there are humpback whales breaching out of the water. Traffic usually comes to standstill when this happens so might as well join the hysteria!

- A bottled water
