17" wheels on 04 x5 4.4i sport package

I have searched the archives and can't seem to validate that 17" wheels will fit. right now I have 285 45 r19 on the rear and 255 55 r19 on the front. The Bridgestone dualer HP's are horrible on the snow. I found a set of 17" wheels from a 2001 X5 with 235 65 r17 Blizaks on them.

The archives point out that 2005 and later x5's have to have 18" wheels because the 17" wheels will hit the brake caliper. I was thinking that my 04 with the sport package might also have larger caliper.

Can someone validate that I will be ok buying these 17" wheels?
I would really appreciate it.

I've had no problem with having 17's on mine (2001).

I'd say you are good to go if the caliper change did not happen until the 2005 model year.

I run 17's on my 2004 4.4i sport. No problems and 17's provide for a great winter setup!

In fact, your spare is a 17 inch wheel and it fits all 4 corners!

they will fit. don't worry how they look as you look like an idiot in the ditch with any size tires.

get the winter set up and join the rest of us in not slowing everyone else down like those who insist that 'all season' rubber works just fine because they drive 10 mph and have 'never gotten stuck'.
