Headlight Installation?

Hi guys,
i have an 03 x5 with halogens, and have bought whole new headlights with xenons, projectors, angel eyes pre fitted to them.

does anyone have a guide or any helpful info on how to install/replace a whole headlight unit on a 03 e53 as i want to try it myself before calling a mechanic.

thanks for any and all help

Try a search of "Articles" at the top of the page. It's amazing what one can find!

To remove the headlight, disconnect all the lights from the assembly. There are four hex screws that hold the headlight in place. Two on top the headlight, and the other two are located behind and down. (don't let the back screws fall or you might never get them again) The whole assembly pulls out towards the front of the car. To replace just reverse. There is a plastic piece under the headlight that will need to be removed and put back when replacing the assembly. This piece is a little bit of a pain, but not to hard to figure out.

Are the lights plug and play?
Does they require any special type of ballast?
Will they trigger any fail codes on the OBC?
These are the things that can make it more complicated.

MrBMWX5 is the member that I think has done some great mods on headlights. If you come up with any issues, maybe reading a few of his threads could help you out with the wiring process.

Good luck

hey guys so i did the install and am super happy with the results!
the bulbs inside (behind the xenon projector) are actually my old halogens!
i havent installed HIDs yet but will once i learn more about which ones work best on my car.
only annoying thing is im getting all these error messages on my obc when i turn off my engine. anyone know a fix?

Before - all lights on

after - parking (angel eyes) on

After - angels and xenons on

ive just got to replace my wheels, kidney grills and fog lights and im all set!

Looking great..Congrats.
In fact I always preferred these to the Depos but they were not available for OEM xenon.

Lordviper, I'm in Surrey and looking to do exactly the same conversion.
How long did it take you all in and have you managed to sort the error messages yet?

Cheers
