Inspections alternate with oil changes, ie every second oil service is an inspection, either Inspection I or Inspection II. There are a number of items to inspect, and it seems that different shops either go all out (and charge a lot) or gloss over the list of items to inspect. It is worth agreeing with your shop what they will inspect, and the price, up front.

Interesting that they recommend intermediate oil changes between the 15,000 mile intervals. Also, I don't think they ever changed my cabin filter during any regular oil change visits. I wonder how many of these items on the list actually get performaed at the average dealer. I bet many are overlooked.

I don't read it as "being recommended", I read it as "when recommended". This is a generic chart from many years back. The X5 owner's manual (for the early production years, when there was very limited condition monitoring and lower spec oils) recommended intermediate oil changes for severe service applications IIRC.

As to whether all the checks get done, I would ask in advance for a copy of the inspection report. You are paying for the service, you should see the report.

cavx5,
You didn't say where it's going for that oil change, but imo, I would not let the dlr rip you for an Insp I, or II, or...find a good BMW oriented Indy in NY area, let him read your list, (or ask him what they usually cover under Insp I), and tell him to go easy on you. My point is dlrs will quote an exorbitant rate for Insp, off warranty.

maintenance minder

i will let the dealer do the oil change but i will not give them the money for the inspection 1 i am sure it will be some insane amount of money i was just wondering what it consists of...i also need the maintenance minder reset i hope the dealer will do it or else need to take it to an indy for reset

I wasn't pitching you on passing/ignoring some basic services...I would get brake fluid flushed and changed, careful inspection of cooling system components, brake pad thickness, maybe a new air filter, and a general walk around, on a lift. All these items and other 'looks', can be done by a competent Indie, at well below the $600-$800 a NY area BMW dlr is going to charge you, and probably more thoroughly than the dlr's time allows a tech to do it at any dlr.

Give the Insp 1 list a read; it is mostly 'inspection', but some maintenance is rec'd, as I noted.
