Under the hood.

Also in the 114 threads that come up if you type CCV in the search field.

Seriously, go to www.realoem.com and look up your exact year and model. It will show you the part, with part numbers and diagrams.

Good luck.

Edit: It occured that you may not be able to find it on realoem either. Look at this link: RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.4i Crankcase-Ventilation/oil separator

Is the oil separator considered the CCV?

Short answer, yes.

The crankcase ventilation system includes an oil separator. The two terms tend to be used interchangeably. The CCV valve is often attached to the oil separator, although it depends on the specific design.

realoem, type in your model, browse parts, main group - engine, sub group cylinder head, scroll down to 4th diagram. search xoutpost oil separator valve diy. johnny on page three tells how he changed his. pictures on page 4. also try youtube search change oil seperator 4.4. if yours is m62 think theres one vid that may show you where it is.

The X5 4.8is has 2 CCVs in the front of the engine on top of the valve cover gaskets. It does not have the Oil separator in the rear of the engine like in that youtube video.
