Replace my key with an Audi Flip key?

hi guys,
ive recently switched to an e53 X5 from an A4 and really really dislike the key.
an odd thing to hate i know......!

i was wondering if there was a way to possibly replace it with an audi flip key like this one?

has anyone got any experience with this and how hard it might be?
also where in london can i get the key cut? is it only the stealership that cuts keys?

thanks for any advice info!

Few problems:
The chip that interfaces with the ignition immobilizer will most likely NOT work.
The remote will most likely NOT connect to the vehicle remote system.
The actual key dimensions MAY be different from Audi to BMW.
However, should you ever get it working, it would be a great upgrade!

I doubt it, since only the dealership can order based on VIN # I am pretty sure there isn't much around this.

I got a remote flip key off Ebay ,for the wife´s Suzuki and it was an easy job.
The flip remote just comes with a specific case and an UNCUT key.All you do then is remove the board with the chip transponder+buttons from you old remote and get the UNCUT key ,cut.
There´s quite s few here for the X5

Cool thing,

you can pull out your VW Golf key and open your X5

But back to business: this doesn't look too bad but normally the problem exists in the details. Did anybody try this mod?

very interested,

Helmuth

I was able to do a mod similar to this with my Mercedes a few years back. They updated the keys from black to chrome/black and they just looked totally different from before. The internals were different as well. Super nice. I simply ordered a new key with my VIN and Mercedes made it for me in the new key form. Given the 3 different radio's needed to make it work inside the key plus the complicated mercedes ignition I'd think BMW could pull it off. Worked great. I wish BMW did this.
