Hi everyone. I have done a little research here looking for links to what is probably an old question, and not had much luck finding the answers I need. I just bought a 2003 x5 4.6is. It only has 30k on it! I live in Wyoming where there is snow on the ground 6 months out of the year. I am not having much luck with the stock wheels and tires in the snow (to say the least), so I am looking for a winter/off road set. I want to find some 17" bmw rims and put B.F. Goodrich all-terrain TA tires on them. I can use them in the snow, and for mild off-roading, as there are lots of unpaved roads here. Like having an extra pair of hiking boots. Now for the question. Will 17" oem bmw rims fit over the 14" disk brakes of the front of my 4.6 is? Has anyone had any luck with minus sizing for winter tires? Any information would be appreciated.

rim and tire size
17s wont fit. front calipers are too big. i put 18s on with 255 50 18 tires. that is the recommended bmw down size from your stock 20s.

I have been to tire rack, among others and have gotten 255/55/18 for a recommended winter tire size. I can just as easily get 18" rims, and tire price is about the same. I only wanted 17" rims to get a little more sidewall and a little less rim for off-road use. Thank you for your input.
