Door is "iffy" sometimes doesnt open from both inside and out

My passenger rear door has an odd problem

lets assume its locked, (you know how most people are in these BMWs) they pull the handle, and push (door unlocks, but doesnt open--ok), but then on the second pull on the lever, the door is stuck from inside and out. If i unlock and lock the car holding the door handle open from the inside, it fixes it. I'm planning on opening my door panel this weekend, but i'm not sure what to look for. Btw, this only happens if somebody pushes on the door while its locked.. after its fixed, if you try to open the door like a normal human being (pull to unlock, and then pull again to push the door open) it will work. This only breaks when the door is locked and someone tries to push it on the first pull on the lever..

Any ideas? i cant imagine it being the door handle carrier, could it be getting disconnected somehow?

Mine does the same thing, rear door , drivers side, except, if I push on the door from the outside, it makes a slight "click" and then we can open from inside or out. It drives my daughter crazy, who many times has to jump over to the passenger side to get out. I'll have to try your trick of lock unlock with the handle pulled, as I am afraid of denting the car each time I push on the outside.

Let me know if you find out waht up when you open it up.

Will keep you updated. I'm hoping someone has come across and fixed this problem already.
