Welcome!
I'm a bit jaded especially since I just got done replacing my timing chain guides but my advice would be to buy an extended warranty and/or start saving money for repairs. The X is a lot of fun to drive but when things break it gets expensive! That being said I would suggest changing all of the coolant/heater hoses as well as the belts and the plugs. Other than those, I would start reading through the articles section and posted DIY's and plan out a preventative maintenance schedule.

I would agree with the above posts unless you're mechanically inclined. Let's say you are, then you have incredible resources at your disposal with the various BMW forums, this one being the best I've found..
If not, the first thing you should do is find a good, reputable independent tech shop, as close to you as possible. Take them coffee and donuts, and then pay them to do an inspection on your new ride. Whatever they tell you is wrong, no biggie, just come back on this board, and DO A SEARCH, before you post your questions/problems. But, you should know, you bought a vehicle that needs an above average (understatement) amount of maintenance and attention. But it's a trade off for a vehicle that's head and shoulders above a Highlander, or Durango or any other mainstream SUV.. |

beware of the cold weather freezing problem of the oil separator...if you see a lot of white smoke coming from the exhaust pull over immediately and call a flat bed tow truck. dont try to restart the car. google it is a big problem thats almost not preventable. you can hydrolock your engine or blow the engine.
