Code Reader - Where to buy?

Anyone know where to buy a good code reader for a 2001 X5 3.0i?

September - bad exhaust cam sensor - P/L $280
December - bad intake cam sensor - P/L $340

Should have bought the extended warrenty!

I checked BA, but they want $190 for both the reader and the adapter.
Wondered if anyone knew of other brands as the BA one is their brand.

I bought a used Actron OBD-II scanner several years ago on eBay and it works great. I think I paid around $40 for it.

I take it all these code readers have add on adapters for each make of car's unique data ports?

The OBD-II interface port is standard across all vehicles. The port is located in the driver's side foot well, under the dash.

I found out more info on the ACTRON CP9125 POCKETSCAN OBD II CODE READER/ERASE (released in Oct 2004)

The pocket size is just for checking and erasing codes. I got a new one for $50 on ebay.

There are 3 more advanced ones that are hand held and they get more into checking emissions, and reading older types of cars.

Bottomline: the ACTRON CP9125 POCKETSCAN OBD II CODE is fine for checking codes.

I was in Sears the other day an noticed and Actron for $175. I was pretty set on getting it since I just paid $75 for a code diagnosis and reset. I didn't have to replace parts. For ~$50, its worth it since I could have just looked up the code and determined if I could do the replacement myself or seek an experts. Good research and thanks to all.
