Unhappy Suspension and X pipe ON! (no pics)

Yesterday was the big suspension swap of 2011. I had removed the Eibach suspension from my 2004 3.0 and put it on my 2004 4.8. It was interesting to drive the 3.0 in stock form with the old 18" wheels. It's still quite a nice handling truck in stock form. It's certainly more forgiving and softer with the stock bits, but it still inspires more confidence than anything else its size. It reminded me of driving a stock 2002tii after driving my own heavily modified one.

Now the 4.8 with all that power on tap and Eibach sways on the front and rear is just a monster. It feels like a MUCH smaller car. I have to remind myself that it weighs a ton more than it feels. VERY fun ride. I will look forward to the years of ownership.

And with the X pipe! WOW! It's amazing what a little part that costs less than $90 can DO for the sound of this thing. At idle, it sounds louder than my SC'ed 540 with Supersprint exhaust. At WOT, it's heaven if not a LITTLE too close to my neighbor's truck with flow masters. The guys couldn't believe that it got that kind of sound out of a stock muffler.

Anyway, the 4.8 and I are both home after a week away. This weekend is the exchange of the Sirius module from the 3.0 into the 4.8. That shouldn't take too long as I put it into the 3.0 a couple years ago. I rarely use it, but it will be nice to have the 3.0 fully ready for sale.

When I installed b&b triflow on my 4.4, I really disliked how it sounded with an xpipe. It x just seemed to encourage the smooth drone sound...after placing online flow master mufflers in a straight pipe configuration, it sounds so much deeper. Really night and day.

That being said, I really liked how the xpipe sounded with the stock mufflers...

Today was the Sirius removal from the 'old' 3.0 and install into the 'new' 4.8. I also took the time to swap the full size spare from the 3.0 in place of the 50mph only donut in the 4.8. This included retrofitting the lift straps and changing the spare tire cover from both. When the non-load floor rear carpet wouldn't close, I had to investigate more closely. A few turns of the Dremel and the hatch floor shuts firm.

A buyer drove the 3.0 it last week. I am pretty sure we'll have a deal done this week. In an interesting twist, it was my mechanic who found the buyer: His own mother!
