Clunking sound from passenger side front end
![]() My wife calls me and says: "baby you're gonna be upset, I tried to avoid it and couldn't but I hit the biggest pothole in NYC" I sighed and said, "no biggie, are you okay". She says "yes I'm fine, nothing happen to the tires or the rims, but now I hear a clunking sound when I drive over rough road or even while I go over a bump". I say "clunking? WTF you mean clunking?" She goes "that's what it sounds like and I thought at first it was the bat you have in the trunk, but its coming from the right side of the car, kinda like from the front". I say "get your wallet ready". So I know it is a long shot to diagnose from just reading, but in your opinions what could I possibly be facing? Keeping in mind that I have already changed the two front thrust arm bushings (replaced with powerflex polys), both sway links, rear upper wishbone. Thanks for your opinions.

Lucky me, it was Sway bar links, lower control arms and tie rods. I know how you know just by looking at your location. I will be submitting the bill to the NYS comptrollers department under their "automobile pothole damage claims". If your interested this is how you file it: How to File a Pothole Damage Claim in New York City | eHow.com

OT: Hi Anthony, have you found anything to help with the Bilstein issues you have? I ask because I might put them on an X3 and appears the X5 guys are the only ones with experience.
Hope it works out. |

After 6 months of riding on the Bilsteins I ended up replacing the rears with Sachs units. The vendor gave me partial credit towards them. The car rides a lot better now. I left the fronts in place for now because it is too much work to replace them. If you're considering Bilsteins for you X3 I strongly suggest that you find out exactly how stiff they are. In my opinion the Bilstein Heavy Duty are totally unsuitable for the lousy roads that we have here in the Northeast.
