I've never tried in on the X5 but if you can get under the car and find the positive terminal on the starter motor, that should do the trick. It's worked for me on other cars.

I took some pictures could someone help me determine the positive terminal on this picture. I found a ground cable. But Im unsure about the positieve terminal.

I unscrewed the ground plate so i have access to the front lower part of the engine.

I saw a bolt in the middle of the pictures but I doubt this leads to the positive terminal...

The top screw terminal on the solenoid which is the small cylinder on top of big cylinder should go directly to the battery.

Thanks I can see this on the picture from realoem but can someone confirm me that you can reach this from the bottom of the car. Because I searched already quite some time but unable to locate
Perhaps somebody has a picture of from the bottom where the starter is located. Because I think my pictures don't show the starter motor.

THanks for the help zulu95!

You may have to drop the underbody cover.

This I already did. But it is difficult if you don't really know what you are looking for . I can see the alternator. But the starter I'm not sure of. On my other car 525i e60 I can also so from the top a positive terminal but this I cannot reach from underneath. If it would be the same for the X5...

From what I can see in the Bentley Manual it is on the opposite side to the exhaust on the "bellhousing".

Hmm I'm gonna have a look. The bell housing is what covers the clutch and flywheel, if i'm right . I'm gonna give it another shot or early tomorrow morning because it's getting dark in my working area.

So basically I have to look on the back side of the engine. Closer to the transmission. Until now I only looked at the front part of the engine...

Thx for the help. Ill let you know something tomorrow! Really appreciate it!
