Never thought of it. I use mobil 1 full synthetic. But in reality, i would bet that all full synthetic oils are basically the same

Don't get too wrapped around the axle about which oil brand to use, any of the major/popular fully synthetic oils will do just fine. Hell I use Wal-Mart brand fully synthetic 5w-30, it's only $17.95 for the 5quart jug, my X5 has 172,000 miles and I've never had any problems, just my opinion.

Agree that you shouldn't get too wrapped up in which oil to use, any of the major brand API-SM oils, in a 5w-30, should do fine.

Personally I wouldn't switch to the Pennzoil Platinum, since it is labelled LL-04, which BMW have specifically recommended against using in the North American market (due to fuel quality, sulphur, ethanol). You can use it safely, but the caution is that it won't last as long, so you need to be changing it more frequently if you do decide to use it.
