Cylinders Done? New block? Or the absurd? Help!

Driving on highway, hit traffic, stalled. Ignition, bad sound from engine. No smoke (i dont think), no overheating, no spilling, no visible mess. Towed to shop. Took out disa, the flap was completely off. Thought it would do the trick. Car was absolutely dead though. New battery bought a year ago. but the DSC, seatbelt, battery, and e-brake light were flickering and flashing/fading away. New battery in, full power back. Ignition, really rough start/vibrating/shaking, and loud knocking/tapping/ticking noise from engine bay. I thought it sounded like it was from the headers, mech. said on top near valve cover.

They said #6 cylinder has no/bad compression. But they didn't think it was a good idea to run the codes cause "it wouldn't tell them whats going on". They wanted to get to the head, I said ill take it from there, since they're not BMW savvy.

Throwing P0313 , P1353, P0313 pd, P1344 P0172 P0175.

Too rich both banks, cylinder 6 and 3 misfire with fuel cutoff.

My theory? A piece of the DISA valve got shot through manifold and now stuck either on top or in the cylinder.... leaving me to decide weather to go in through the manifold or cylinder head... Im lost

This is what it sounds like after ignition.

And is this what my throttle body is supposed to look like?

With regards to first post, cabin sort of smelled a little like fuel as well....

going to of course very thoroughly clean MAF, check boots, clean all sensors, check for any leaks. DISA valve was also broken. maybe the mixture just got really bad, along with dirty or failed MAF?

Update- a piece of metal somehow got shot through the intake manifold, and embedded in between the intake valve and cylinder, not letting #6 keep compression.

Good find
Was it a piece from the Disa valve? On what engine?
Did you have to remove the cylinder head to see that piece or it was visible by only removing the manifold?

Yup, piece of it shot through I guess, into #6. Head comes off tomorrow to see the extent of the damage, only saw the piece via a borescope.
So, thinking worst case scenario, will have to get:
2 valves, head gasket kit w/ bolts etc, possibly intake manifold, and maybe a new engine block...... Unless the damage is very very minor and it can be cleaned up..

I see.
Big chances it will be only valves + redo the seats. If a part is small enough to get into the cylinder, I don't think it will interfere when the piston goes up, and may even go out on the exhaust stroke.

Just in case, I remember on my previous M42 318, the camshafts were hollow, and to remove them, a jig is required to keep them from flexing. I was able to remove them without the jig by loading all the lobes equally with valve opening, and gradually backup the bolts. I don't know it the X5 camshafts are hollow or not, but may worth to inestigate before removing them.

Keep us updated, and good luck.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
I was gonna say after reading the first post the metal rod from the DISA flap probably got into a cylinder...and even a small piece of gravel in the cylinder of a running engine can bomb out everything in the cylinder, so fingers crossed that it didn't take everything with it!
