Trans rebuilt recommend? UPDATE

Well folks I had commented about the hard 2-1 downshift and after a few more trans-failsafe prog's got the dam thing diagnosed and code: P0733 I have decided to get the trans rebuilt. The vehicle has 94k miles on the clock and the wife doesn't want to give up on her. I was looking for a different answer to justify another purchase, but she killed that.

So my question to you all is who or what shop do you recommend in the NYC area?

That was happening to me. After some research I found that it could be caused by a bad alternator...so I tried that first...cost $300...swapped it myself and no more trans issues.

Gerry,
Did you have any warning lights or codes? How did you figure out it was the alternator?

Update

So after searching in NYC for a reputable trans rebuild spot and weeding out all the b/s ($2800 6month warranty) I found a place in Huntington, LI
(The Little Garage) They're pricing, $2750 with 24month or 24,000 mile warranty.

I did not want to use Aamco because after taking it to a local one in the Bronx for their "complimentary trans scan" they told me that it did not need a rebuild, that it was merely a gear slip. Not the case. 3rd gear was slipping everyday and trans fail safe's all the time. I could drive it on manual, but it would start on 2nd gear and I would still get hard shift to 3rd. I was not able to go up a steep hill without gear slipping and trans fail-sage engaging.

Took it to a shop in Mount Vernon (Euromeccanica - Auto Maintenance & Repair Services) and the owner, very nice man, Mike Shiffer confirmed that I needed a trans rebuild. He even offered to do a fluid/filter change and transmission software update and if the problem persisted he would only charge me 1/2 price and that didn't work. Once he took it out to test drive, Trans Fail Safe engaged. So he only charged me 1hr labor @ $108. Not bad.

I will keep update once the rebuild is complete.

sorry for late response but I had dropped off the X before I posted. Also, 1 year unlimited miles does not seem to be a good warranty for me, I barely put 10k miles a year on the X. Thank you anyways for the thought.

its a piece of mind type of thing also. i wouldnt get anything fixed if a tech told me that as soon as you leave its your responsibility

Transmission Rebuilt Success

Got my X back on Saturday with a fresh Trans. My 3rd gear was gone also a transmission sensor and cushion spring. Do not know which sensor it was. Trans was fully rebuilt, new cushion spring and sensor. Shifting is as smooth as butter. Damage was $3050 with a 2 year 24k miles warranty. Currently has 94700 miles.

Question for those with Dinan trans software, does the ECU need to be re-flashed with Dinan after the rebuilt?
