BMW X5 please advice. E53
hi all glad to be here finally, my x5 recently came up with FUEL INJECT SYSTEM this happen only when the tank reaches a quater of a tank EVERY TIME, i had it diagnose had was told it might be an injector fault so went out and bought some reconditiond one this happen 3weeks ago know my car is still in garage so can some one tell me HOW LONG it take to change six injectors and is it a difficult job because am considering going to the garage and take my car and tell them to fxxk off and can i doit my self? they rang me yesterday telling me they need glow plugs so i bring them it today and ask them how long they will be my car as they are rely peeing me off. they also telling me the glow plugs are very hard to fit on this model at lease 4hr yes 4hr to fit glow plugs. so first of can anyone tell me if the parts that i bought will fix my problem and should i leave the car and let them sort it (in there own time) or I SHOULD take my car?
any help appreciated. |

Can't help you with the re and re times for the diesel engine. Powers would be the best to help, he is usually on here.
I can suggest that your mechanic should be working from a proper diagnosis, having read all the codes first. Randomly replacing parts in the hope that you hit the right problem is an expensive and frustrating way of trying to repair the vehicle. You should deal with a shop that you trust, and you should ensure that they are familiar with this model, and have the correct tooling. It doesn't sound like either of those is necessarily the case with the shop you are using.

JCL,
Excellent advise as usual.OP should at least get the car hooked up to diag equipment to help detect the "fuel inj system" problem and take it to someone who is familiar with the car, thus even saving himself some money as someone familiar with the car will do the job quicker as they know what they are doing . Mike, There is another member here ,who very recently had the same issue as you.I have replied to him.The garage also changed the glow plugs ,eventhough the car started fine and of course this wasnt the problem and he still has a "fuel inj sys" issue.I advised him to diagnose the car for a specific error code ,hoping that this will identify it. Read the thread below ,but it is quite common for the problem to be the sensor on the rail pressure. Please keep us posted, and I am also going to ask the other member for an update on his situation. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-pressure.html Last edited by powers1; 04-20-2011 at 05:06 AM. The official repair/replace time given by Bmw for glow plugs is 1.5 hours,so 4 hours is too long.
For the injectors its 2.6 hours. The injectors are a more difficult job to replace since sometimes they get stuck and you will need a special tool to remove them and pull them out. |
