What's the deal with the 4.4 V/S 4.6 who is faster discussion?

I see this on youtube all the time and I dismiss it as the typical arguments, but I see it a LOT that the 4.4 is faster than the 4.6 so I have never bothered to look and see or why and I figured I'd ask.

Which are the faster of the E53 line from top to bottom and why?

I'm pretty sure the 4.6is is a little faster than the 4.4i of any year. It's close though, not like a 4.4 vs. a 4.8.

4.6IS is faster then 4.4i ~03. and by less, but faster then from 04~. 4.8IS is of course fastest of all E53s.
I have Draged with two 4.4i's and one(I guess something was wrong? Service was on) was like dead compared to me. seccond one was good, didn't even have vanos noise. I beat that one also, by 180km/h he was 3-4 cars behind. However I also have raced with 2 E39 528i's. I have beat both of them from start and on...I can imagine beating while on the way. Anyway Mine says it has Dinan Engine & Tranny software, No aftermarket parts are on whatsoever. But I don't think that a software can do that much.
So, what I want to tell you, is, depends on the engine indvidualism. Now I want to take it with 4.6IS, I know it will go first, but just for the interest. (I have Redline S1 Injector cleaner now, as my injectors need cleaning!) and got to change those faulty O2s.
As a rule, 4.6IS is faster and has more Torque & Horse Power, so there you go.

Funny question but let me add my .05 worth. The wife drives an 03 4.4i and I drive an 03 4.6is. Hands down the 4.6is is noticeably much quicker off the line, faster top end (never had either over 125 mph) but you get there much quicker, and you can feel the torque difference. The 4.4 has a 3.63 (2500 rpm at 75 mph) gear ratio vs 3.91 on the 4.6 (3050 rpm at 75 mph) The 4.6 handles a lot better but all in all the 4.4 is a worthy car. We have put over 100K miles on her.

Ahh, interesting. Does that impact fuel consumption ?

Well, yes obviously.

I'll rephrase - does that impact fuel consumption significantly ?

2-3 liters more per 100kms are the difference between 4.4i and 4.6is. Right now I am planning on doing 4.44 Ratios on my 4.4i. Going to be interesting. I saw prices and they are close to 4k $ in US. Over here, however I don't know if they done it on an X, but I know they do it on M5s... So I figure, If they can change ratio on an M5, they can do it on X. Labor would be much cheaper. I expect 500$ for labor(they change ratio on their own. so comes out 500$ and that's it) Ill post if/when I decide to do it, and gain it will give me.

When you do, I'd love to hear your impressions after the swap.
