Do you mean you have bought the retro-fit kit to install the headlamp washers.

Yes , you are right , the car needs to re-coded after retro-fitting the headlight washer kit.
I am just about to start this project, need to find out how much dealer will charge for the recode.
The only slight disadvantage when retro-fitting is that we dont have the ' s' button on the stalks so I guess the system will only work on the regular screen wash function with the 5 times delay.

I think the re-code tells the car that it now has the additional feature fitted, so when you operate the screen wash the headlight washers should also work if the headlights are on.
You do know that the headlight washers only operate every 5th time that the screen wash is operated, to save wash fluid I think !!.
How old is your X because depending on the age and level of equipment that you have fitted as standard, this can make the install easier , it is all explained in the insructions that come with the kit.
Was it easy to run the hoses and make the connections in the bumper.
