rear hatch wont shut please help

So we went to the drive in movies, I had the hatch open and the tail gate down. I used a screw driver to latch the hatch with it open so the lights would turn off. After the movie the hatch wouldn't shut no matter what I do, its not the model with the electric self closing glass. I have tried unplugging the battery, the fuse, etc holding the button for 10 seconds etc. The solenoid in there makes a noise but it won't latch
