x5 3.0 diesel sport, automatic, turn over but not starting??
hi,im having problems with my x5 starting..
95% of the time it starts excellent.. 5% of the time it wont start it will turn over but not fire.. BMW are being useless and arent sure what was wrong, they said nothing came up on fault machine but he found a burnt out fuel pump reley which they replaced and said that will prob sort it, it hasnt. anyone had this problem before??
any ideas what it could be??

Hi James,

It could be your key. Try your spare and see if it still does it. Otherwise, do a search and you'll find info. Could be ignition switch too.

hi, thanks for reply, much appreciated, yes i have done that already and still no joy, i have also searched for others that have had this prob and saw a thread off this site from a guy called ollie, he had exact same symptoms as me and ppl wrote things that it could be down but i just would like to know from some1 whos had the same problem what exactly it was and how it got/if sorted. iv messeged him but no reply, just very frustrating because its intermittent and bmw havnt got a clue wot it is, there basicaly printing there own money with this problem. any1 who knows anything it will be greatly apreciated.thanks

Dealer said no error codes on diagnostics and yet they found out a burnt out pump relay!Dont make any sense!This would be bring up a FUEL INJ error!
Since the dealer is not being cooperative,you need to find a good independent or another dealer.Someone that can hook a diagnostic equipment that reads/records live data.Try to start the car and when it doesnt start ,you should have the error information recorded.
When it doesnt start,do you see any smoke from the exhausts?Does the engine turn over when it doesnt start?
