can not reprogram key with one key

hi all, i have just changed the battery in my remote but it still wont work.

i only have the one key so i cant program with a working key.

i have tried the two different programming options but still no luck.

has anyone got any clue on what it could be or what to try?

does a new battery have to be charged first?

Thanks
Vince

New batteries typically have a decent charge on them and will work for many months. The diamond keys I have repaired it has never been a bad battery. You do not need a working key (it must at least start the car because it must authenticate with the EWS) in order to sync a key to the car. Do you have a friend with a BMW and diamond key. You can try and sync his key to your car, just use your key to operate the ignition and then do the key fob press hold, press three times, etc. with the other key.

Thanks mate. I do have a friend with a diamond key. I will try it in the next few days.
The key does start the car.

is it possible i have damaged the remote when i soldered the battery?

I've repaired many keys and have never found a bad battery. I've always found cracked solder joints, broken or missing (fallen off) components, bad buttons, broken traces, but, never a bad battery. The problem with your key is probably not the battery and playing with it the first time made a broken joint make contact and the second time the connection opened again.

The same thing happened to my key, I replaced the battery and when I went to program it nothing worked except the trunk unlock/panic feature. But the range on the trunk unlock is awesome, so my battery was definitely bad as it would lock and unlock the doors maybe once a week...lol!

Wait a minute. So the door lock and unlock buttons don't work, but, the trunk release button does? Do the interior lights work and does the central locking button work? If those two functions are also not working then have a GM3 problem.

Yep, that's right, and my interior lights and central locking do work so it's not the General Module, I replaced that earlier this year...lol! When I soldered in the new battery I tried the all the buttons just for the hell of it and to my surprise the trunk unlock button worked. I then tried to reprogram the key following the instructions here on the site and nothing works, but like I said, my trunk will unlock from across the street...lol!!!
