So, I ordered the OEM sway bar end links from bavauto ($92 w/ shipping), and I received two types of end links. one was from Lemforder and the other was from Uroparts. Noticing that the Uroparts one didnt have the washer for the top stud, so I used the one from the original end link which I was replacing. I dont know if having two different types of sway bar end links is going have any effect but we shall see.
After taking the X for a spin I heard no more knocking, and the problem was solved for now. I'm taking it into the local indy for a preventative maintenance check over, for potential/inevitable problems. Regardless, Thank you z168 & Weasel for your help!

I am a little confused here. There seems to be long links and short ones.
BMW E53 X5 M54 3.0L > Suspension > View All > ES#59115 Sway Bar Link - Priced Each - 33551096735 BMW E53 X5 M54 3.0L > Suspension > View All > ES#51108 Front Stabilizer Line - Driver (Left) - 31356750703 So replace both sides, but with which ones? Is it dependent on which one is damaged in the first place?

The short ones are for the rear sway bar. The long ones are for the front sway bar.

probably sway bar end links. I think that BMW calls them stabilizer links or some nonsense like that. I had the same problem it sounds like. I ordered new ones and when I took the old ones off the joints were very easy to move. That should not happen. There should be a significant amount of resistance.
Thanks my 2 cents, also you will need a thin box end wrench. I don't remember what size though. Pretty cheap fix really. I made sure I bought OEM BMW parts, not aftermarket. |

I ordered the Lemforders and the kit only came with 2 nuts and 1 washer... The one I took off didn't have any washers... So where does the washer go???

I think the one washer goes at the top of the link end.

Small world, I'm from Calgary as well and this 'clunk' has been bothering me for some time now, it clunks every small/med/big bumps and I assume its the end links as well. My buddy is going to replace my ball joint fairly soon and hopefully I can get him to install these as well. OP, did you end up ordering it online or getting it locally from the dealer?
