It's very easy. Just connect one of those $10 cans to the LOW side of the AC line valve and pump it in. My AC was dead a month ago and it's freezing me to death now...

If you need a recharge then you have a leak. If you have a leak you need to find
it and repair that also. I don't believe the old $10 can trick works any more.

I've done it many times with success. As Quicksilver is saying, if it is a bad leak, then you will only have working A/C for a short time. But if it is a slow leak then you will be fine for a while.
Is your A/C working at all, or is it just not quite as cold as before?

Be careful not to overcharge the system, it only takes around 12 ozs to fill an EMPTY AC system on a E53 X5.

I have a 2003 X5 with the AC working, just not as cold as it should be. It has been the same for two years now. Any time the temperature is over 85 is just can't keep up. 80 or below and it works just fine. Would you guys go the DIY route? Doesn't seem to be leaking anywhere since its performance from last year to this year is exactly the same.
thanks.

I'll do the same to see if that's all it needs...

I added the refrigerant, DuPont without any sealer in. I only put half the small can in because I was afraid to over fill. I probably could have put more in, but yesterday the temperature reached 93 and the AC cooled much better. Seemed to have worked.
The pressure was damn near the RED (over 50psi) when the AC was off but fell to about 40psi when on.
