CV Failure

I noticed the CV boot was torn so I decided to drive it until I can replace the drive shaft. Long story short replacing the driveshaft will also correct a low speed shimmy problem that is coming from the CV.

How long can I drive with blown CV boot. Is this reckless?

the torn CV joint will let in dirt and debris while letting grease out. I would say 5 days of daily driving. I don't really think it is reckless, I mean you will find it pretty easy to recognize that your driveshaft is going bad.

CV Boot

I've actually been driving mine for about 6 months...my indy said since I live in SoCal, there isn't much dirt etc. that get in but this weekend I decided to replace the drive shafts etc. since 6 months of no protection didn't sound good.

It's not a hard DIY...just takes time. I'm in the middle of doing it right now

My concern is primarily due to safety. Am I At risk for the wheel falling off or some other dire event? I just don't have the time right now. If it has to be replaced ASAP I can do it ,prefer to wait.

Refering to the grease spilling out, happened to me drivers side axel.twice.im still driving it too with it too.the amount of time u can drive with it in the condition isnt measureable imo.however when things really get bad ull kno.i got lucky considering when i lost power going to that axel i basicall was driving a 3 wheel drice car but i was actually heading to the shop to get it fixed and i was less then 2 miles away.i recommened getting it fixed A.S.A.P.
