FSR FSU Fuse 64 Orange light stays lit(Battery Drain)

Hi everyone!

Its been quite a time since I started looking for a solution to my battery drain issue.

So from reading through forums I figured that the most common issue for battery drain is FSU unit that doesn't turn of the blower when car goes to sleep.
Plus it prevents car from going into a sleep mode because the orange light by the gear shifter stays lit at all times.

So I pulled the Fuse 64 in the glove box, that is responsible for FSU and car finally went to sleep(orange light was off after 15 minutes).

Today, I went ahead and replaced FSU and now the light stays lit again! WT*?!

I will see tomorrow if the battery is dead again or not.

Is there anything else on that circuit that is preventing my X from deep sleep???

You never mention if your FSR/FSU gave symptoms of failure (erratic behavior or actually coming on after the engine is turned off etc)...did you just replace it because of what you read?

You also have not given any model/model year/build date info (don't have a signature either) so we don't know if you fall into the production range where the orange light never turns off. Help us help you better...click the USER CP link along the top of the page and create a permanent signature the includes your model/model year/build date. This helps us pinpoint our responses based on your model, engine, transmission, options, or specific changes that may have occurred during the production run from 1999-2006.

For the X5/e38/e39 that do have the orange light turn off after 16 minutes...see the information below as to the items on the P-Bus that signal for the vehicle to AWAKE or go to SLEEP if no calls are made on the components on this BUS:

So actually after 24 hours light was off when I checked!
But it stayed On for over 12 hours. And it seems like it does not drain the battery as much. I will see if its still alive tonight after 48 hours.

I hope this fixed my problem.

Btw, I am talking about 2005 X5 (e53) 4.4i production year 2005.

Thank you for a quick response!

Thanks for this update. I believe its like around the 2001/2002 model year that a lot of owners say that the orange light next to the gear shift stays illuminated.

Someone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on this one.

Sadly the problem is still there and the orange light is glowing....

So its not FSU....

Would be very helpful if someone can wright a list of common battery "vampires" and their fuses.

Thank you guys so much!

Is the problem that the vehicle's battery is dying...or is it just the orange light?

If the battery is dying...how old is the battery? Have you ruled out that it has sulfated and no longer a viable battery? What is it's voltage before starting the engine (run TEST 9 with ignition in position 1)?

And again, with the orange light...it is staying on after 16 minutes and no door handle, window, sunroof, or remote key buttons have been activated (or any of the signals listed in post #2 above)?

Battery is a couple month old, plus i took it to autozone when they have charged it fully and it showed 12.6 V.

Everything is closed but stays on. I had the orange light on since I bought my X in September but battery problem just occurred like a month ago.

So its not a battery nor FSU.

Plus, if you have a link on how to test fuses, please help!

I have an update!

So I have pulled all of the fuses responsible for computer, radio, telephone, cd changer(which i don't have).... And battery is still alive after over 30 hours!

At least I know the general area where the drain is happening!
I have placed all of the fuses back besides the Telephone one(Fuse 74),
so I am suspecting bluetooth or the emergency assistance console(might be it bc I remember water dripping out of the plastic grille near those buttons).

In addition I have read about faulty TCU, which is kind of responsible for those functions.

Let's see if it stops draining the battery with phone off.

Final Update!

I found a problem - it was TCU unit.
So I just went ahead and removed telephone fuse.
No Bluetooth - no battery drain!

Wondering if the recall for TCU is still active.
