I had a basic Thule 4 bike rack that I borrowed and was not happy with the construction and design. Here is a pic... ![]()

Where'd you pick this up and what's an approx cost if I may ask.
Was thinking of doing the same thing, but your idea is much better executed. Jonathan

Curt Class III Receiver Hitch
TheHitchStore.com $188.43 - Free Shipping (got it the next day to NY) Softride Dura Hitch 4 Bike Rack eBay - bicycleoutfittersindy $278.95 - Free Shipping (got it in 3 days to NY) I looked at the Thule 964 Revolver Bike and Yakima Swing Daddy. Both are okay.. Yakima had better powder coating and construction. I found both to be very bulky and needed more steps to move the bikes to the side to clear the hatch. They are both much more expensive. Another plus to the Softride is that you can remove the bars and switch out to a kit that can accommodate skis/snowboards. Hope this helps.

Where is the centre of gravity of the bikes and rack, relative to the hitch pin? Looks to be over 24" with it folded vertical. Are you putting four bikes on it?
Lots of bending moment on that hitch receiver.
