IPOD lead to centre console

What is the best way to get a Ipod lead to the centre console where the cup holders are?

In my E53, I came down from the MID unit on the right side of the driveline hump, into the front right edge of the centre console just above the carpet, and then back to the cupholders. It was very straightforward.

I must have drilled a small hole in the bottom of the cupholder to bring the cable in, but I don't remember doing that. I think there was a removable rubber liner, anyway. It was almost eight years ago. I then cut out the centre of the lobster tray (pen holder) insert, so that the iPod would sit in the tray securely, and the sliding cover would still close.
