can i do alignment on front wheels only? or all 4 wheels must be done?

hi,
2001 bmw x5 4.4l sport

for some reason the tire on passenger side front (the outside part of the tire)
is going out ,almost to the wire...what i am thinking is from the "tow" maybe the wheel is not straight up,i guess.

so today i am going to change it,

(all other wheels/tire are fine)

now ,do i have to do alignment on only the front 2 wheels or all 4 wheels must be done?

thanks,

I am pretty sure thats not just an alignment issue. Usually a tire wearing in the outside means bad alignment or bad upper control arms. Also known as Trust or Tension Arms. And do all 4 wheels alignment

i was to my local tire shop, les schwab ,
and the guy told me that i need to change both front tires,i cant put a new one with the other side ,the old one,
because it will damage the differential ! because is all wheel drive,
is that right?

,and yes i will do all 4 wheels align.

thanks

yes you really should change both side to side at the same time.. Your other one is probably close to being that worn anyway..

Yes change them both. Also have Les Schwab check the front control arms upper and lower. They will let you know which one needs to be replaced. Check this web site. tireeasy.com i always buy the tires for my X5 and for my Audi S4 there. Way cheaper than anywhere else.

That tire matches the requirements for your X5. Never heard of it though. It sure has a nice look.

I generally do not like to go with no-name tires. but if money is tight, then i'd say its ok..

the Toyos are a better brand though--and for me, you cant put a price on safety and peace of mind

I could not agree with you more, but thats why we have tires for different markets segments. There are the ones that can pay $400 plus for a Michelin and the ones like me, that not only think Michelin Diamaris suck, but cant afford that much. I have Toyo Proxes st II on my X5, and I think they are great tires.

hmmm, yap money is tight for me right now,
and i am looking at all options,
i would like to put the best of the best, but sometime thats not possible!

and i also went to american's tire and the guy said that i cant put only in front new tires,i have to put all 4 new, because if i put new in front and leave the 2 old in read, the factory settings,in between the front and rear must be within some inch... difference, also will damage tranny too,the guy was saying...

now i am really confuse with this x5!

also he said that this tire tread, like proxes:

will make more noise when driving the x5 and they will run out of tread faster

then this one:

with this ,smooth drive and longer life on the tire...

now,i have to decide, but money is way to much for me for all 4,i am scare now not to damage anything else to the x5!

thanks,for your advice!
