I once had a pen roll down the dash and into the windshield vent slot. This used to slide around the vent duct when cornering - very annoying. I removed the pen by first removing the side window demister vent grill.
Removing the instrument cluster is straight forward should your rattle be something from that area....

Rattles are so hard to pinpoint and what may sound like is emanating from behind your gauge pod, it could be from somewhere else. Like Brian stated above, removing your gauge pod is very easy so it's worth a shot. As perhaps a silly question, do you have all the climate control fans off when you listen for the rattle?
