Roof seals?

Yesterday, I happened to be behind a newly purchased 2006 4.8(?). Definitely, not a 3.0i by exhaust pipes. He was directly in front of me going through the car wash. I did it mostly to get bugs off my truck due to recent trips. I'll wash it by hand on my days off. Anyway, as he's going through the dry phase, both roof seals come half off! Both seals are hanging off the side and over the rails like earrings. Are seals glued on or pressed in? Are they a common issue to fly off? I need to check mine ASAP.

I'm anxious for feedback on this as well - due to one of my seals trying to pull up on the rear...2006 4.8is.

Do you mean the seal that runs down the roof next to the roof rails?

They press in, if I recall correctly (definitely no adhesive used). Very easy to take on and off but be careful not to tear the attachment points which I seem to remember are just rubber eyelets and buttons molded into the seal and which fit over/into matching pieces on the roof and door pillars. I took mine off to paint the roof and hood and they were filthy. 23 years of dirt and grime caked into the voids. Perhaps that person's were damaged and the attachment points broke, but I will say mine were in great shape and cleaned up nicely so I think they are pretty resilient...considering how terrible the rest of the rubber and plastic on my X5 was before I started really working on it.

The above is accurate. I did have a problem with the front roof pane. Half of the rear seal portion was becoming unglued....was pinching...i ended up using glue (e6000) been good for over 2 years now, on my 04 X3 227k 2.5

They're glued/taped on. I had the same issue with mine. Stuck them back on with heavy duty double sided tape after thoroughly cleaning the rubber strips and the body. Haven't come off since.

Maybe they changed how they are attached at some point doe to them coming off. Mine were/are definitely not held on with adhesive.
