I actually make and produce E39 LSX Swap Kits from Engine Mounts to Headers as well as modified Oil Pans to clear subframes. My kit is designed for 540i E39's with M62 motors. Im wondering if my mounts would bolt up in a X5 4.4i???? I bought my 01 x5 3.0i with intentions to put a LSX motor in it eventually a year or so down the road but this has got the wheels in my head turning. If anyone has a x5 4.4i with the motor pulled please PM me. I wouldnt mind sending someone the mounts to see how similar the engine bays are.

Here are some pictures of my E39 swap project.

Wouldn't it be more of a problem to clear the front right axle which passes through the oil pan, and to mount the front differential (which is integrated into the oil pan)? Or would you rip all that out and make it a rwd only?

I would make it RWD because there is no cost effective way at making a T-56 6 speed transmission compatible with the transfer case as well as clearance issues. A RWD 400 RWHP 6 speed X5 would be the tits. Has anyone ever tested how much hp the transfer case is capable of?

All the more reason. Didn't mean to demean the M.

From the pictures it looks like my mounts wont work. Im gonna have to call my local indy and let them know next time they are pulling a 4.4 out of an X5 to give me a call.

Thanks for your help.

don't really know where to ask this question but opinions on bmws turbo charged engines?from what i heard about the 3 series coupe there typically bmw(not realiable) but however in 2013 bmw is releasing a new turbo charged 4 cyl engine.looks like they're trying to compete with audis 4cyl considering audis outputs 211hp and bmws new engine outputs 240hp.general the smaller the engine, the more reliable it is but in a bmw, anything can happen.opinions?

Why not talk to STS Performance and run a set of rear mounted turbos? It's by no means a X5M but it would boost performance and packaging would be doable. You'd have to figure out how to run the piping but I think the X5 has enough room. Hell, if they can fit it into a Corvette I'm sure it would fit in a X5.
