If you don't need to trade to a fresher X5 right now, consider waiting for a couple years for prices to come down on the turbo I-6 or turbo V8 X5. I don't think a jump to a 4.8i gets you significantly higher performance, but a jump to a turbo X5 with chip potential is a real upgrade! Just a thought; sounds like you've got a plan though.
