Cool X5 Instrument Pixel Fix

Hey there, can anyone help me out with a fix on the instrument panel. SOme of the pixels on my unit are not there. I have tried the fix on here but still no luck. Do I spray the contact cleaner on top of the circuit board or underneath the circuit board. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do except have the unit replaced at your dealer or send the cluster out to repair yourself. I believe the website is www.vdorepair.com .... However you won't be able to drive your X5 during the repair. The cluster is very very easy to take out -- just a copule of bolts around the top of the cluster.

Unhappy Instrument pixel fix

I wish it was that easy. I am in Sydney Australia and I don't think there is anyone here that can repair this item. Wish I was in the states.......

I am planning on installing the guage rings on Friday and will be looking to see if I can use the tips shown on the home page to fix the couple of pixels on mine that are intermitent. I will post the results later in the day on Friday.

I'm thinking about that mod myself... (see what you guys are doing to me?)

Looking forward to your write-up, Jeff. Take tons of pics!

Fix available

I had the same problem with my 2003 X5. Did a search and found a thread on bimmerfest. Apparently this is a known problem. check this thread out -

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83256

I wrote to Lenora and she wrote back saying a rep would contace me. I'm hoping for the best.

In my opinion, it is worth a try.

good luck

I fixed mine myself last month by fitting a new ribbon cable. Not an especially easy job, but it worked.
