Can't align steering

Hello everyone , I hope you can shed some light on my prob
03x5 over 100'000 miles . Lately the steering seems to have become heavy and when coming out of left turns the wheel is slow to return to centre . I took for alignment and after they had a go they said something was wrong and it was not possible to align , they showed me while the wheels where held in traction and then they turned the engine the steering wheel would move too the left almost jerk like ! They were not sure what was wrong and advised me to get it checked , has anyone got any ideas on this ?

Take it to a decent mechanic and not any where that can have a car on ramps, witness that sort of fault and yet have no idea what is causing it. Those guys should not be paid to work on your vehicle IMHO.
