like pretty much all of the details?
![]() Its a huge task, not simple plug and play, needs loads of parts, stripping car and running cables from front to back, too much hassle for a dated system IMHO. Its been done loads, there's even a how to & ingredients list in the list of "how to's" which is permanently at the top of the page on this forum ![]() I've had the nav in my last 4 BMW's and I've had all of the systems available for this vehicle except the very earliest one (i've had mk2, mk3, mk4). I wouldn't buy a BMW without it (it does its job) but I would not go through the expense & hassle of retrofitting it either. its just 'meh'.

As mobilejo said, an OEM retrofit is a major project, do a search and you will find a thread with pics on how to do it, it's expensive also. For aftermarket look at Dynavin or the Hualingan products, lots of threads about them as well.

i dont think the aftermarket offerings are really solutions IF you loose the use of the on-board computer.
if the OBC can still be actuated via the new head unit then that would be ok. some one suggested fitting the existing in dash unit in to the glove box to continue being able to use the OBC when an after market head unit is installed ......but for me thats really a poor option. if you want the screen buy the car equipped that way |

Here is a DIY thread from another forum showing the depth of a Nav retro fit on an E46. It is just as involved on the X5. If you desire to make the move to retro fit your X5 with factory navigation we have the parts available.
