Update on my window regulator

About week ago my passenger side front window became stuck in the down position. It happened while my daughter was driving the X at the funeral for my mother-in-law (I was driving the MDX with my wife and a couple other relatives in that vehicle). I partially removed the door panel just enough to get the window back up by hand, and suspected that the window regulator had gone bad once again. That same one had gone out on me about 2 years ago and the symptoms were about the same.

Today I got completely into the door with the intention of replacing the regulator. Once I got the door panel off, though, I found that the problem wasn't with the regulator at all. Rather, one of the bolts that hold the window glass to the regulator had come loose and this was causing everything to bind.

I was able to find some plastic gromets at the local hardware store and get the glass properly secured back to the window regulator and all is well once again.

Here's a picture of the bolt that I am referring to:

The lesson learned here was that even though it appeared to be a bad window regulator, there are other things that can cause similar symptoms.

Jeff

Lucky! I've had 3 go bad in the past 18 or so months.

All the best, Zach

If the window regulator has gone bad does that mean that the window will not move up and down at all no matter what position it is in?
My drivers side window got stuck all the way down about a month ago. I opened up the bottom part of the door panel and pushed the window up by hand while at the same time pulling the "window control" button. The window came back up and worked a bit slower than usual, however, when the window was opened down all the way it got stuck again. So, again I pulled the window up and for now I use the window normally but I am careful not to bring it down all the way.
I have not yet had a chance to open the panel all the way and diagnose the problem but I suspect that I might have that same bolt problem.

It could be either one. When mine went out the first time, the cable on one side would still operate the window for a while and then it completely failed. The front window motor likes to be able to pull up both cables, and really struggles if the window is all the way down and it's only is controlling one cable.

Only way to find out is to remove the door panel and starting nosing around.
