Creaking rear suspension

I've got a 2001 4.4i Sport with 73k miles.

I've noticed the rear suspension creaks a lot and wondered what it might be?

Suggestions so far include:

1) Subframe bushes.

2) Upper ball joints.

3) Lower ball joints.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

I did all the the things you mentioned except the subframe bushes. It just started creaking again. Its most likely the bushes. I did it myself in the driveway. It was a lot of work. Would take it to a frame shop next time.

The problem l'm having is identifying exactly what it might be.

Is there a way to 'test' if it is the subframe bushes or won't l know until they're actually replaced?

These have been recommended:

I had the same creak. Changed the bushing, and the creak went away for a short period of time then it came back. Said to myself why after I changed the bushings. So I found out it was both the bushings and ball joints. So considering I had to buy the ball joints I bought the complete kit. Upper and lower arm, ball joints and a few other pieces. The rear end on my x is so stiff now. Exactly how I like it.

Creaking sound

My mechanic says it is coming from my upper rear control arms. The ball joint in them to be exact. He's suggesting I replace the control arms ($60 each w balljoint) sway bar links (one is broken) and guide rod (I think that is the same as the traiing arm or integral link at $50 each)

Labor will be $250.

Thoughts?

this is when you have to decide which parts you want oem or aftermarket. choose wisely, check out ecstuning.com and get the parts first, then bring them to the mechanic
