Radiator fan shroud

What's the box on the shroud? It's unplugged and before I go plugging random things in I figured I'd ask. Didn't come up with much in search.

The thermostat and cooling system uses the fan shroud sensor. The dash display sensor is not under your hood, if it was, the dash display would show the under-hood temp!

If your X5 has automatic A/C, it's the AUC sensor.
