Hi all

Hi all,

Just bought an '01 X5 4.4 for my wife as an early Christmas gift. I currently have an '01 M5 which I've had for the past 5 or 6 years and had a '98 540 before that, so even though i know this won't be the most reliable car, but it will be fun to drive, comfortable, safe and I know what to expect as far as repairs (well, mostly anyway.) Her current car is more reliable and cheaper to fix, but when it does go wrong, it never throws a code or a light so I have no idea what's going wrong and have to end up taking it to the mechanic. With the BMW I know there will be great resources like this board with knowledgeable people.

I told my wife this is her car, but my toy :-) I'm trying to resist the urge to play with things... but if you had a bone stock X5, what would be the top 5 things you do to it? (Bluetooth, nav upgrade (I have the 4x3 now Mk2 or 1 now), headlight facelift, angel eyes, etc....)

Thanks,
Matt Atkins

Nav upgrade would be 1st.
2.Sound upgrade. Cause X has fced up sound, even if it's premium audio. If you don't feel like messing with wires,(If Premium it has DSP, so need all new wiring to delete it)then go for BSW upgrade.
3.For visual, I assume it's not sport, because you said its stock. So I like Glossy Trims on it. if you go that far. and Nice rims. and maybe IS package. It's realy hot.

Go for style 87 rims, send your headlights to member mrbmwx5 for modding... The "is" kit could also look good, a bit pricey though..

Btw, used to have an 03 lemans blue M5-- caramel interior. Miss it a lot!!

Post pics of both rides!! And welcome to Xoutpost

Is sport like the E39 where chrome trim means non-sport and black trim means sport? If so then yes mine is non-sport. I wasn't sure as the automatic transmission has a sport setting and tiptronic. Both of my BMWs so far have been manuals so I have no idea if sport and tiptronic are just standard features.

Yep, like E39. Sport/Tiptronic are standard.

M5s and other cool cars...

with Naz.

BTW Naz.. What a beautiful Blue/caramel M5! How did you ever that up? I have some regrets over some of the cars I have let go in the past, but I think that one would have been a keeper! (like my 4.6is... it never gets old to me.)

By biggest regret? letting go of my e30 M3... it's worth far more today than when I sold it in MINT Condition back in 1992. DOH!

Nice M5 btw. This was the only picture I could find easily. Mine has the black and silver sport interior.
